Proposition Development - Asset Management
This award is open to any business operating in the asset management sector. The judges will be looking for evidence that the thinking behind the new or developed proposition was new, fresh and made a positive impact on the market, preferably to the direct benefit of the investor.
Proposition Development - Discretionary Fund Management/Wealth Management
This award is open to any business operating in the discretionary fund management and wealth management sector. The judges will be looking for evidence that the thinking behind the new or developed proposition was new, fresh and made a positive impact on the market, preferably to the direct benefit of the investor.
Campaign Innovation - Business to Business
This award is also open to all asset management businesses operating in the financial services market. The campaign may be B2B orientated or focussed on intermediaries or indeed the provider community. We are looking for genuinely new ideas and execution. The judges will compare entries featuring single medium against campaigns spanning multimedia; they will be looking solely for evidence of new thinking, innovation either in message, creative approach or media.
Campaign Innovation - Consumer
This award is also open to all businesses operating in the financial services market. The campaign may be direct to the consumer or be focussed on intermediaries or to drive consumer engagement. We are looking for genuinely new ideas and execution. The winner may be drawn from smaller firms such as advisers running local campaigns or from international groups. The judges will compare entries featuring single medium against campaigns spanning multimedia; they will be looking solely for evidence of new thinking, innovation either in message, creative approach or media.
Thought Leadership Work
Thought Leadership is increasingly being used as part of a marketing project, but how effective is it? This award is also a chance for academics and their institutions to showcase their work. The judges will be looking for new thinking applied to the investment sector in the form of published research or papers. The papers must have been published in 2016 or 2017. The context may be any aspect of direct relevance to investments, for example investment or markets performance, investor behaviour, pricing models or governance.
Corporate Social Responsibility Innovation
This category will award the company who has shown the most relevant new thinking in addressing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR ) issues, including sustainability issues in terms either of the operation of their own business or in terms of their behaviour as fund managers influencing the CSR policies of the managements of fund holdings. The category is also open to companies who have successfully innovated in making CSR part of their products or funds appeal to private or professional investors.
Most Innovative Events
This award seeks to recognise the company with the most innovative and effective approach to events. The judges will of course be looking for evidence of new thinking and for an approach to events which recognises the needs of the audience. Entries should relate to events which took place in 2016 or 2017. Eligible events include adviser events, events aimed at providers and events aimed at staff of investment businesses.
Sponsorship of the Year
From sporting events to cultural activities to individuals, if you show your support for the community or encourage excellence through your various sponsorship programmes we want to hear from you. Judges will look for evidence that the sponsorship offered something different, new thinking and real innovation. They will also look at how well the sponsorship met the company's objectives and its overall execution. Entries should relate to sponsorship which took place in 2016 or 2017.
Social Media Innovation
This award seeks to attract entries from all companies in the sector using social media in its marketing with either advisers, consumers or both. It is also open to firms using social media in their research or in their internal communication. The judges will be looking for evidence that entrants have really thought about social media and its transformational potential and created innovative solutions in terms of the objective, the media used, the content development method and the execution.
Best Use of Data
This award is looking for new ways to use data. This might be in the identification of a new insight, a new business solution. Or the innovation may lie in the data source, aggregation methods or in user access. Entrants should highlight how the use of data has driven company or campaign success, with a clear line to connect implementation and results. ** NEW AWARD **
This award is open to all businesses operating in the investment market. The entries will be judged on how the business has used web to stretch the capabilities of the medium. Entries will succeed if the entered site stands out from the crowd in terms of it’s design, ease of use and content.
Most Innovative Robo Advice/Guidance Proposition
The entries should demonstrate how its core consumer proposition really adds to the choices available to users, will help narrow the advice gap and deliver real value to clients. Note – as many propositions in this sector will be very new the judges will focus on innovation in proposition, ease of use, quality and clarity of information for the user and evidence of marketing and communication innovation to support the venture ** NEW AWARD **
Digital Marketing Campaign of the Year
This award is open to all businesses operating in the retail financial services - or agencies working on their behalf - that have undertaken a digital marketing campaign, targeting retail consumers, intermediaries or other businesses in 2016 or 2017. The judges will be assessing innovation in media, message and execution.
Direct Marketing Campaign of the Year
This award is open to all businesses operating in the retail financial services - or agencies working on their behalf - that have undertaken a direct marketing campaign, targeting retail consumers, intermediaries or other businesses in 2016 or 2017. The judges will be assessing innovation in media, message and execution.
Content Marketing Campaign of the Year
Entrants in this category should demonstrate the use of compelling content to engage in the retail financial services market and so help achieved commercial or other objectives in a content-based marketing campaign. In addition to demonstrating creativity and innovation, submissions should produce evidence (preferably quantifiable) of impact in achieving tangible objectives, such as return on investment. ** NEW AWARD **
Open Innovation Award
This award is also open to all businesses operating in the financial services market. The initiative may be B2B orientated or focussed on intermediaries or indeed the provider community. We are looking for genuinely new ideas and execution sourced from anywhere in the business. The winner may be drawn from smaller firms such as advisers running local campaigns or from international groups. The judges will compare entries featuring a single medium against multimedia initiatives; they will be looking solely for evidence of new thinking, innovation either in message, creative approach or media.
Compliance Project of the Year
This will reward the most effective and innovative compliance project undertaken by asset and wealth management firms. Nominations may be for a single project or for an overall strategy. Judges will be looking for projects that have conveyed a compliant message in an innovative and more accessible format. ** NEW AWARD **
Marketing Team of the Year
Open to any marketing team working in the retail financial services. We are looking for teams that have made significant strides in promoting the brand they work for through marketing activities, can clearly demonstrate a major contribution to the success of the business they work for and have shown innovative and original thinking in their messaging. Entries must show evidence of innovation in terms of one or more of – how the team relates to the business overall, how the team is structured, the types of people in the team, the team ethos.
Marketer of the Year

Good marketers act as the lynch pin for their products. Often working against a series of objectives concurrently and pulling all parts of the team together. To win this award the judges will be looking for a marketer who can clearly demonstrate a genuinely fresh approach to the role. Evidence of innovation will include – a re thinking of the role of marketing, new ways of measuring success – and the driving of successful new initiatives.
Third Party Marketer of the Year
This category is open to either an individual or a company who has provided a marketing initiative or material for a third party organisation. This can be an individual within the marketing department of a product provider producing material for a third party such an intermediary or other distributor; or an independent marketing/capital raiser firm supporting product providers such as fund managers or VCT providers. The judges are looking for evidence of innovation in either – the service offered to the client, the nature of communications used or the contribution to success of genuinely new market solutions.
Agency of the Year (PR/Creative)
Open to all creative and PR agencies working in the financial services that create advertising, PR, digital, design or content for their clients. All work specified in your entry must be from 2016 or 2017.The judges are looking for evidence of fresh, new approaches for clients – new ideas, new ways of using media, new ways of developing message and content.
Rising Star Award
This award is aimed at individuals working in the financial services sector or in agencies or consultancies advising sector companies. Entrants must have been working in the industry for less than 5 years as of 31/03/2017. The judges are looking for the stars of the future who stand out for their ability to bring something new to the sector.
Lifetime Innovation Award

This special category will be given to the individual working within or for the investment sector who has shown outstanding long term commitment to new thinking. Entries can be from individuals or their colleagues and must show multiple examples of an innovative mind set working for the benefit of the sector and its clients. NB The shortlist for this award will be a combination of entries and judges choice.
This award will be given to the category winner who in the opinion of the judges has best demonstrated the IMAIA ethos by exhibiting new thinking leading to innovation driving real beneficial change in the investment market. There is no entry for this award.
